Whenever you are travelling to Portugal there are so many different places to visit and each one has its own weather. From the sunny beaches of the Algarve to the old streets of Porto, you’ll want to dress up right for the season to enjoy your trip. Let’s see what’s best to wear in Portugal for each season. below i have described each season separately . Lets start….

Spring

In Portugal, Spring start from March and lasts until May. It’s not too hot at the beginning of may, but everything gradually starts to grow. If you visit the south of Portugal at the beginning of spring, like the Algarve, you will find it warmer than the city like Porto situated in the north.

What to Wear:

  • I personally recommend to wear light clothes made of cotton or linen in the spring because it can get warmer during the day.
  • Also make sure you bring a light sweater or jacket for the mornings and evenings, especially if you are planning to visit the north this season.
  • Add comfortable shoes to your list because you’ll probably do a lot of walking.
  • Last but not least try to bring a small umbrella or a waterproof jacket in case it rains.

Summer

Locals count from June and enjoy it until August. In summer it is very hot and sunny, especially in the south of Portugal.  You will find all of the beaches are full, and the cities are lively even late into the night.

What to Wear:

  • Make yourself comfortable by wearing light and loose clothes made of cotton or linen to stay cool.
  • Don’t forget to pack  your swimsuit for the beach!
  • Protect yourself from the sun with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Always try to keep a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

Autumn

Autumn begins here from September and ends in November. In autumn you will feel cooler compared to summer, but still nice for being outside. However, in the north, it gets cooler earlier than in the south.

What to Wear:

  • Wear layers of clothing so you can adjust to the changing temperatures.
  • Bring comfortable shoes for walking around.
  • Like spring also bring a small umbrella or a rain jacket because it might rain sometimes.

Winter

In Portugal, Winter starts from December and lasts until February. Normally, in winter it is colder than any other season and sometimes very rainy, especially in the north.

What to Wear:

  • Wear warm clothes like sweaters, coats, scarves, and gloves to stay warm in winter here.
  • I also recommend to keep waterproof shoes or boots in your luggage in case it rains.
  • And don’t forget to add gloves, hats, and scarf if you plan to visit places like Serra Da Estrela.

Understanding Portuguese Weather

Portugal has different weather in different parts of the country. In the south, it’s hot and dry in the summer and mild in the winter. In the north, it’s cooler and rainy, especially in the winter.

It’s important to check the weather forecast before you go so you know what to pack. Even though Portugal gets a lot of sun, it’s good to be prepared for rain too.

In Conclusion

I hope dressing right for the weather will make your trip to Portugal more enjoyable. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach or exploring the cities, wearing the right clothes will keep you more comfortable so you can focus on having fun and enjoy your trip.
